What We Love

For us, this home really couldn’t have been more ideal when we chose it 3 years ago. We didn’t even realize many of the advantages until after living here for a while. Who could have imagined the spectacular sunrises we are treated to right from our bedroom window? Or the tranquil coffees in the mornings on the deck of that same bedroom overlooking the marina, our boat, and the spectacular Columbia River? I couldn’t have imagined the abundance of wildlife from families of ducks, geese, blue herons, harbor seals, hawks, and even the occasional bald eagle. We currently have a duck nesting in a planter box outside our front door. Simply amazing.

Downtown Portland is 15-20 minutes away or you can stay right here on the island and enjoy a fantastic floating restaurant right down the street (Island Cafe), Hidden Cafe, or 3 Sheets. We’ve even paddle-boarded to these restaurants from our dock where you can store your board or kayak. Maybe just spend the day at the community pool as we’ve done for family birthday parties, grad parties, and even an engagement party for our son. You can reserve it just for your group.

You’re a 15-minute drive to the Portland International Airport where the world awaits and 5 minutes from the downtown Vancouver waterfront with incredible restaurants, wineries, brew pubs, and river views. It is about an hour to Mt. Hood for skiing in the winter or an hour and a half to Cannon Beach and all the incredible seaside communities to cool off in the summer.

There is camaraderie attached to being a member of a select group of “islanders” residing within the larger community of Portland. Hayden Island is a special place.
